It's been a while since I've done any kind of dating update. There's been a lot of activity, but nothing that I want to go into great detail about just yet.
I can say that I have a big date this weekend and I'm very much looking forward to it. We've been talking A LOT for the last week and all I can say is that he's awesome (and cute!)! So we'll see how it pans out in person after talking so much this last week. I'm optimistic that things will go well because when I met him the first time, I immediately felt the "click" that I like to have, which is always a good sign! (Warning: A wee bit of gushiness coming...) To me, he is perfect. He's the perfect mix of introvert and extrovert. (I always am drawn to the quiet ones, but then wish they were more out-going!) He's super-smart, loves games, funny and hates musicals (big +)! Even better, we communicate REALLY well and he has the sweetness factor that I adore. (Unlike #5, this one does know about the blog, so just in case he reads this: Hi honey!)
In other dating news, there are quite a few eHarmony guys that I'm going through the process with. One in particular looks pretty cool, seems very out-going and is pretty cute to boot, but we just haven't had a chance to meet yet. All the other prospects are in the back-and-forth question stage at this point. I've also been emailing this other guy from a different dating site and he seems nice, but again, the holidays have kept me (and him) too busy to meet up yet.
I should know better by this weekend if I even need to bother with either of these other guys. Keep your fingers crossed that things go well!
Too many people just sit and let life pass them by! I don't want to do that!

I need a man with social skills
This guy with a FULL beard started communication with me on eHarmony the other day. I like my men on the clean-shaven side, but I went ahead and answered his questions and started the process because I figured I should try to be open-minded about the facial hair. Then we got to the second stage where we exchange our "Must Haves/Can't Stands".
One of his Must Haves was: "I must have a partner who mainly enjoys staying in together and having quiet evenings alone or with close friends."
I could not click "CLOSE MATCH" fast enough! Wow, that really is a sore spot for me. I don't want to be in a relationship where I feel trapped and feel like I have to spend all my time with my partner. I naturally tend to lean that way, but the fact that he's listing it as one of his Must Haves means he must really want that alone time or time with close friends. I was feeling smothered just READING that statement. Ick, ugh, and yuck! Part of it is reactionary from my marriage, but one thing I know is that I do not want a repeat of that aspect of my marriage!
That's why one of my Must Haves is: I must have a partner who loves to socialize with lots of different people.
I have a core group of friends, but I have a wide circle at the same time! I need someone that can hang with them and be at least open to spending time with them. Spending time alone is great, but I don't want to get caught in that rut of spending ALL our time together. It's not healthy. And more importantly, I don't want a life like that.

eHarmony Date #8.2
We met at the golf course to hit some balls at the driving range and on the putting green. I could get really good at golf if I put in the effort. I can definitely see why people enjoy it. We made a bet on the putting green which cost him a beer.
We went to dinner and the food was fine. At the start of dinner, I brought up a topic that had come up during our first date and really kinda stuck with me. It's too long to go into here, but I asked him more about it and the additional information he gave me didn't really help me feel any better about what he had done. He asked me out for a third date and I said that I'd think about it. After further thought last night, I think the answer is "no." So I'll be sending him an email to let him know.
Snippets of the conversation I had with him needs to be put in a completely different post called "The Top 5 Reasons You Should Be Judgmental." It certainly has been an active topic of conversation lately!

Sunday Plans
I'm up earlier than I'd like to be considering I went to bed pretty late last night. I'm going to finally go visit a nearby church that I've been meaning to go to for a year! Finding a church can be tough! Making the TIME to find a church has been tough. I really need to try to get less busy. I say that every few months and then I get busier and busier and then feel overwhelmed. I need to do a better job managing that. I will have to if some changes happen at work. More on that if it actually happens. Hopefully I'll know this week.
I also have a second date with eHarmony guy #8 today. To be honest, I am just so-so looking forward to it. I probably shouldn't have found this annoying, but I did. I'm playing games on Friday and he texts me around 5 PM to ask what I'm doing at the moment and later that night. Answer to both questions? "Playing games." Then he asks me out for a movie that night. I was like, "I can't, I'm BUSY." I guess most non-gamers might find it odd that I'd be gaming instead of going out to do "normal" stuff, but I was annoyed because I clearly said I was doing something that night. If I was free, I would've said so. I think most women know that if they wanna go out with a guy, when he asks, "What are you doing tonight?" You indicate that you're free. Not a big deal, but still kinda annoying.
I'm trying to keep an open mind though, so I'll go. But if I'm not feelin' it by the end of this date, I think I'm done.

Pretty much packed
I am pretty much packed (less toiletries) and am getting ready to head out. Something funny happened yesterday... I got a text message from eHarmony #8 and turns out we're on the same flight this morning. He's transferring in Dallas to go to Ft. Lauderdale for a guys weekend. How crazy is that? I told him to quit stalking me already!! So, we'll see how seeing him after two hours of sleep goes.
We got to bed SUPER-late last night, partially due to another "quick" game of Agricola that was started around 10:30 PM. On a gaming note, we used the E & I decks and what else? It was awesome... That game just keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to play it every day!!

Hypothetical Situation
It's often interesting, but almost pointless to talk about hypothetical situations. I say it's pointless because so many times, people say they'd handle a situation a certain way, but then don't actually follow through. How many people think or say they wouldn't put up with a cheating spouse and yet don't dump them when it actually happens? Probably more than you'd think.
During all three dates I had this past week, the topic of cheating on a spouse came up in one fashion or another. A couple were stories about friends and how things were handled and one was a hypothetical situation.
The question was, "If you found out one of your friends was dating a married man, would that affect your friendship?" To me, the answer to that is a slam dunk. It absolutely would affect how I thought of that friend and if it was clear to me that it was going to continue, I certainly would not make an effort to keep up a friendship with that person. Someone who would knowingly contribute to the downfall of another person's marriage is not a friend I want to have around. I know there are always circumstances, but in the basic sense of that hypothetical situation, that was my answer.
Then came the "What if"s... And then more what-ifs, which I totally understand on a certain conversational level. But then on another, why so many questions about that particular topic? I'll have to ask him the next time I see him.

Busy Sunday
I got up on time, made it to church, got to dumplings and played Agricola AGAIN!!! I officially am smitten with that game. I then had a date with eHarmony #9 and it was good. He already asked about a second date and I think going will be a good idea. I worry though that he has too much morally gray area for me. I am not completely black and white, but I definitely have fewer shades of gray when it comes to right and wrong than a lot of people. After dinner we started talking about all types of hypothetical situations and he seems to have lots of wiggle room. But it's late and that will have to wait for another evening.

Weekend so far
I was at So Cal Games Day all day today & managed to play Agricola two times!! We played the easy version with only the E cards and it was awesome. It must've been for me to be willing to play a second game with FIVE players. Our five player game took about 3:15 to play. The rules added another 20-30 minutes. The replay-ability is so awesome. We could play that game for the rest of our lives & never play the same game twice!
I also played Cuba and Ubongo Extrem. Those were OK, but not the best, especially compared to Agricola. The running joke was Dave walking by asking, "Are you *still* playing that?"
Tomorrow, I'm planning on going to church, Din Tai Fung & then MORE gaming!! And more Agricola!! I'm totally looking forward to it!
Oh and one more date tomorrow night. The third of the week.

eHarmony Date #8
I went out last night with eHarmony date #8. It's hard to believe that he's only the eighth guy I've dated from that site. It seems like there have been more. Maybe I haven't cataloged them properly!
We met for sushi and he looked basically like his picture. He was late due to ungodly traffic last night (it took me 30 minutes to get to Encino!), but he called to let me know beforehand that he was stuck and I had a book with me, so I didn't mind.
Basics: He seems pretty nice and we never ran out of stuff to talk about. He's from New Jersey originally so he is on the sarcastic side, which he had warned me about beforehand. I had a really good time and I think one of the highlights of the evening was our Yankees discussion.
Somehow we got on the topic of baseball and he mentioned that he's a big Yankees fan. I scrunched up my nose and said, "Ew, I hate the Yankees!" He was like, "WHAT?! Maybe we should end this date right now! Do you follow baseball?" I said, "No I don't, but I follow it enough to know that I hate the Yankees!"
I hated to break the news to him, but I said, "Dude, EVERYONE except Yankees fans hates the Yankees!" He tried to deny it, but I said, "Really? How much money ya got?" He decided we'd do a token bet and we each put up a dollar. The bet was that we'd ask 10 people and give them the option of (a) love 'em, (b) hate 'em, or (c) don't care.
Results? 40% of people polled hate the Yankees! He wanted to find SOMEONE, ANY-one who liked the Yankees so we polled a few more people passing by our table about it and finally found one who did say that the Yankees are in his top 10 favorite baseball teams. So, I revised my statement to: "80% of people polled who had an opinion, HATE the Yankees!" And I put his dollar in my purse.
He asked me out for our second date before we even left the restaurant. He's into golf and I told him I like the driving range, so we're going to do that. He said that he'd call me sometime after Thanksgiving to set-up plans for the weekend and I strongly suggested that he not wait that long because the weekends get booked up quickly! He took the advice and emailed me today to set-up the date. So, we'll try one more and see if there's a spark. I wouldn't have said "yes" to a second date if I thought there was no hope for a spark, so the next date will be the tell-tale one.

Dating update
Well, I saw my mystery man and we had our dates and things went really well, but there was a spark missing... so we're just going to be friends. It totally sucks because I really like him and am attracted to him and was really hoping that there would be something more. I guess things could develop, but that has never happened for me, so I'm not sure if my brain (or heart) works that way. I halfway wonder if the spark was missing because we were both just nervous, but who knows. I'll see him again soon and if we were wrong, I'm sure we'd both be willing to admit that! But for now... just friends.
As for #5, he called on Wednesday to say "hi" and catch up, but no plans to see each other before I leave on Saturday.
I'm still technically on eHarmony, but I had turned my matches off. I think I'll turn them back on and see what happens. Or maybe I should just turn it off until January. I'm paid up til 10/12, so I might as well turn them on for now.

Crazy Chemistry
After talking to a friend, I think I've realized that one thing I clearly need to add to the "must-have" column my "Ideal Husband" checklist is "crazy amounts of chemistry. " Mad, passionate, delicious chemistry! Because without chemistry, what do you have? I'll tell you what...
A friend. A good friend. Sometimes, a really good friend that you wished you were attracted to in a romantic way, but what can you do? If it's not there, it's not there! At least that's how it works for me. If it's not there at the beginning, it won't develop. It's possible to do some tweaking to improve existing chemistry, but for me, it's either there or not. And the only one way to assess it is up close and personal!
Which is why I don't mess around with emailing eHarmony guys for a month before meeting them. I'd much rather just meet and assess chemistry right away and just get that over with. There have been a few guys that I've been interested in based on emails and phone calls, but then I spent time with them and it's okay chemistry-wise... but not off the charts. And that pretty much extinguishes any desire. Without chemistry, I lose all romantic interest. If I'm looking for someone to spend the rest of my life with, I need to be very attracted to them (and vice versa).
No matter how many problems I had with Jason, we always had the chemistry. It might've waned temporarily at times, but never for long and even at the end, it was pretty good. I think part of it was that I just fell so completely in love with him because we clicked on many levels, including the mental and physical attraction. It probably blinded us to other problems, but that's life! Man, I really want to find that again. Crazy chemistry with someone that fits the other stuff on my list too. That would be so cool. A girl can dream, can't she?
This just added... a little "chemistry" humor!

Random update tidbits
I made it back home safely and I'm feeling a lot better than I was when I was diagnosed last week. My throat is not hurting nearly as much and my lymph nodes are no longer sore and swollen.
I just found out that one of the kids at Gulf Games has mono too. He already was sick by the time I got there, but I did see him last month when I was in Atlanta. My guess is that I somehow got it from him. Either that, or I somehow gave it to him last month. Or maybe it's just a coincidence that we both have it at the same time.
I ended up playing quite a few new games last week. OK, I just added them to my "New Games" list for the year and I played 24 new games last week. So, I'm up to 114 new games for the year. Whew. That's a lot of games!
I did learn how to play Memoir '44, so now I can try it out with #5 tomorrow night. I'm taking it, we'll see if we get around to playing it. There's a movie on deck also.
I was supposed to go out with eHarmony guy #9 when I got back and he called today to see about setting something up, but I basically told him that I wanted to see how things went with #5 first before trying to meet him. I think I'd feel weird about it since I do like #5 and am kind of interested to see where this goes first. #9 said that was totally reasonable and said to give him a call if it doesn't work out and wished me the best of luck. I think I'm just not good at dating more than one person if I have any kind of feelings about one of them.
Also, #5's birthday is next week and he's turning 40 (!) and I asked what he was doing for his birthday. He's having dinner out with his family on his actual birthday, which I figured would be the case, so I offered to make him dinner some other night next week. He said that it sounded perfect. Now I just have to figure out what to make! I have a couple "company-worthy" dishes, but they involve the oven. Maybe some homemade spaghetti and meatballs will be what's for dinner... I'm going to have to do some research.
As it is, he's meeting a lot of my friends on Thursday night. I have a very small games night (I don't want him to feel intimidated) and he agreed to come. Hopefully he will have fun. It will be interesting to have my friends meet him. I wonder if he'll "fit in."
And last, but certainly not least! I received an email from RedOctane.com today letting me know that my copy of Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s has been shipped. I should be receiving it tomorrow!! I might play a bit tomorrow night before my date just to try it out and maybe unlock a few songs for Friday night's GH Fest! Anyone interested in coming should email me.

Date #5.5 - The arcade
I fell in love with Atari 2600 at age 5. I distinctly remember thinking my dad was so cool because he had an Atari and he let me play it before I'd go to kindergarten. My favorite game back then? Breakout (game 11). So, no big surprise that I still love going to arcades! That's why taking me to an arcade is always a winning idea. Even though I hadn't told #5 that yet, he took me out for video games and miniature golf Wednesday night. We wanted to do the batting cages, but there was a line! He was very affectionate while we were out and we had a great time. He's actually pretty decent at the Dance Dance Revolution! We went to Starbucks afterwards for some more chatting afterwards.
Also, after more thinking about the weird feeling I was getting last weekend, I thought of another possibility as to what it could be. In my past, I've often just gone out on one or two dates with someone and then just sort of "fallen" into a relationship with them. So maybe I'm feeling weird because that isn't what's happening even though I like him. Maybe because we're taking our time, I'm feeling weird about it because it's just not what I'm used to. It's just a theory.
I think now that we've reached five dates, I'll go ahead and stop recapping them. If anything major happens, I'll post about it, but until then I think I'll quit talking about it so much.

Date #5.4 Recap
I could go over everything that we did and talked about, but I think the bigger picture is this. I am attracted to him and I would be interested in spending more time with him, but there was a minor incident that made me go "Hmmm..." (just like that C+C Music Factory song!).
I won't bother with the details, but something happened that was just odd. I asked him about it a little later in the evening and he told me why and what had happened, but if it's the truth, it's just weird I guess. At this point, I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it is the truth, but I'm definitely going to be watching for any else that even smells like an untruth.
On Saturday, I was feeling like something was a little amiss. I can't quite put my finger on what it is exactly, but I have some ideas of what it could be. I was feeling stressed about it until I realized that there is no reason to be stressed about it. The worst thing that happens is what? We stop seeing each other. At this point, certainly not a big deal. That combined with the "maybe lie" is making me glad we're taking it slow and just trying to get to know one another better.
Since our date, he texted me on Saturday afternoon to let me know that he had a good time on Friday and then called me on Sunday to set up our next date, which will be this Wednesday evening. I think that's what the confusing part is. On one hand, I am getting a weird vibe, but then on the other hand, he keeps calling me and asking me out. So, maybe it's nothing, or maybe it's something. Either way, my guess is that it'll get resolved somehow over the next few dates.
Meanwhile, my date for Sunday night had to reschedule, so we're going out on Thursday night instead.
I won't bother with the details, but something happened that was just odd. I asked him about it a little later in the evening and he told me why and what had happened, but if it's the truth, it's just weird I guess. At this point, I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it is the truth, but I'm definitely going to be watching for any else that even smells like an untruth.

eHarmony Update
I talked to two different guys from eHarmony yesterday. One was a quick phone call because I was at work and the other was a longer phone call (over an hour!) because I was at home and actually had time to chat.
The long phone call guy asked me out for dinner on Sunday, so I'm going to meet up with him after tea on Sunday. I'll already be out in his neck of the woods so that works out perfectly. One thing that I liked about him is that he asked good questions. Not just chit-chat, surfacy questions, which I appreciate! We'll see how the date goes. He does have a cute accent because he is originally from London.
Only 3 1/2 more hours til date #5.4! Tick tock!

Tomorrow is Date #5.4
He contacted me Monday to ask me save Friday night for him. Smart guy. If he had waited til Tuesday, it would've, no doubt, been occupied! I don't know where we're going because I left it up to him. I do know that he felt bad about his bachelor dinner he served me on date #5.3 (which was actually perfectly fine), so he said that he's going to buy me a "good dinner" which I can only take to mean, something that includes a side dish! :-) The upside is: no having to get up early for work the next morning!

Date #5.3: Doin' it up Bachelor-Style
Last night was my third date with #5 from eHarmony. Thank you to all the well-wishers!
The arrival: I arrived at his house a few minutes late because I stopped at home to brush my teeth and change into jeans and a cute top. When I got there and saw him in shorts and a t-shirt, I had wished I'd worn shorts because it was a bit warm. Luckily, he turned on the A/C after I got there.
The menu: Not the tuna-salsa combo I was ready for! But we did it up bachelor-style anyway with some baby carrots and pepperoni slices (mmmm... I love my salty meat! Don't go there R!) as an "appetizer." For dinner, we had boneless, skinless chicken breasts (salt & peppered) cooked on a little George Foreman grill!
The abode/red flags: He has a very cute house that is, wait for it... neat as a pin. Here's finally that red flag I've been kinda waiting for. He's a neat freak. Not a clean freak, just a neat freak. I did not see once stray piece of mail hanging out on any flat surface of the house. Why does that happen? I am so NOT a neat freak (even though I've improved), and yet it seems like I tend to be attracted to them and vice versa. Also, I don't think he's super-social. He said that he much prefers small groups and one-on-one vs. big groups of people. I don't think it's a major problem, but one I'm going to keep an eye on.
The game: When I told Davebo that I was planning on playing Thurn & Taxis, he discouraged that and instead suggested Ticket to Ride, a game that I had not even considered. Once he said it though, it clicked. I knew that was the better choice. #5 said that he did enjoy it, which is a good thing. He's really into WWII, so what I *really* need to do is play Memoir '44 and try that with him.
The end: After the game, we went in the backyard to play with his chocolate lab and then he kissed me! It was good. Back inside, there was more kissing and I ended up getting home, well, let's just say, a bit later than I had planned. Who needs sleep anyway? We seemed to have pretty good chemistry, which is essential in my book. When I left, there was little doubt in my mind that he would be calling for a fourth date.
The follow-up: He emailed me this morning to let me know that he owed me a "good dinner" and asked if I was free Sunday night. I'll be coming back from Denver late that night, so we're going to try to set something up for next week.
The verdict? Obviously, it's going pretty well. He isn't seriously dating anyone at the moment, just some casual dates (I'm in the same boat), so until he's expressing more of an interest to date exclusively or we've talked about it to some degree, I think I'll go ahead and follow up with my other eHarmony guys. Especially since my subscription is ending around mid-July. But I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him next week.

Date #5.3 is coming up!
While I was out of town, I was in touch with #5 via email and he invited me over to his house. He said that he would make a specially "prepared" meal for me. The last time he was at my place, he asked me what the weirdest thing I eat at home is when no one is around and I don't feel like cooking. I wasn't sure what he meant, so he gave me his answer: a couple cans of tuna fished mixed up with salsa, eaten off of tortilla chips. I've never tried that, but I have a feeling I may have to edit that statement by the end of Wednesday evening!
For the record, if he does make that for me, I'm inviting him over and making him eat one of my favorite easy no-cook meals: peanut butter and kimchi sandwiches.
A couple more good things? He likes kimchi, yea! and when he sent me the email with his address, he said that if I wanted to bring a game, I should do so! I decided to try Thurn and Taxis with him and see how it goes! I'm also going to take Lost Cities over to show him how all the pictures fit together since he mentioned how he liked the artwork during our last date.

eHarmony Date #5.2
Last night, I had my second date with eHarmony guy #5. We had arranged to meet at my apartment so I could teach him a game. The plan was for him to show up at 7:30 PM and we'd eat ham & cheese sandwiches and play a game or two. Here's what happened...
Actually, on second thought, let's just cut to the chase. He arrived on time (good), he's not a picky eater (doubly good) and we played Lost Cities. He was interested in checking out Guitar Hero (triply good), so we did that too and he liked it! We had lots of fun talking and before he left, he kissed me. Twice. And it was good. He said he'd call me and I hope he does.
The best part? So far, no red flags! Not a single one. Not that I'm being supercritical or anything trying to look for one, but during the last year, there has always been a red flag (or maybe a pink one) by the end of the second date. Sometimes even before the first date, but I'd go out anyway just to make sure. He hasn't said (or done) anything that has made me cringe. In fact, just the opposite. I find myself laughing and enjoying listening what he has to say!
Best of all, I feel very comfortable around him. He mentioned during the evening that next time, I'll have to come over to his place, so I guess that's a good sign. Keep your fingers crossed!

eHarmony Dates #6 and #7
eH Guy #6
I met him at Michael's Steakhouse in Burbank at my suggestion. That place has really good food (and they have cajun food!!) and it's fairly reasonably priced. He looked a little heavier than his pictures, but basically the same. We had a nice time, but I don't think I'd really be interested in going out with him again. I can't imagine myself kissing him, a sure sign that there's not really a spark there.
I think he might be a bit too Midwestern for me. He doesn't eat spicy food, which apparently is a fairly common thread among those Midwestern people. He's also very frugal, not necessarily a bad thing, but he was complaining about having to spend about $1,000 to travel to Iowa for a good friend's wedding. The main complaint was that if they had been married in the city the couple was currently living in rather than the bride's hometown in Iowa, he wouldn't have had to pay hotel costs because his mom lives in the same town as the couple. I totally understand that it would've saved some cash, but seriously, how much can a hotel in Iowa cost? Probably not much.
eH Guy #7
I met him last night at Frida's in Beverly Hills. He picked out the place and suggested the time, so I went. EVEN THOUGH, there was a Guitar Hero Tournament in Hollywood that I was missing. The sacrifices I make for (potential) love!
The good things? He looked like his picture, cute face, very blue eyes. Seemed nice enough, talkative, good taste in food.
The not-so-good thing? He seems very status-oriented. I'm guessing that he's fairly well off financially, but I don't really need to hear about it all. Just be a cool person that I feel connected to. I'm certainly *not* the type to love someone just because they have money. I'm not saying it wouldn't sweeten the pot a bit, but love someone for it? Never. Whereas, I can tell he's proud of where he is in his life, which is admirable, but that shouldn't be all you're about. He's made several statements through email and on the phone that make me think that status is very important to him. In that respect, I'm not sure how compatible we are. Or maybe he's trying to impress me? I have no idea.
When the bill came, I offered him money (as I always do) and he thanked me for offering, but refused to take any (a good thing). But when he was signing the slip, he made this face like he was thinking and calculating, so I said, "Oh, figuring up the tip?" and he said, "Ninety-eight plus twenty is 118, right?" I just said, "Yes!" Was this his not so subtle way of letting me know how much dinner cost? I saw the menu with all the prices clearly printed on it. I knew it was going to be up there. Maybe that had nothing to do with it and he's just not good at math, but related to other comments he's made about his house and his job, I don't think so.
That being said, I'd probably go out with him again if he asked. Mainly just to see if there is more of a connection. All the stuff we talked about wasn't very personal and so, I didn't really feel a strong connection to him or feel like we got to know each other. If the second date was on par with this one, I'd probably not go for a third. He said he'd call me Monday, so we'll see!
