Monday Night Football

As the summer starts to wind down, I've found myself gearing up for Monday Night Football! Or rather, the NFL football season in general. I just bought a new Jacksonville Jaguars t-shirt and freezer mug, yeah!

Here's the problem. I don't have cable. Which brings me to why I'm pissed off! MNF, starting this year, is going to be on ESPN which is a cable station. Millions of people across America who have been enjoying this tradition for decades will now have to pony up for cable! This is B.S.!!

I will most likely get cable for the football season so that I can watch MNF. But I don't think it's right for ABC/Disney to do this to Americans who may not have cable. Most of my childhood was spent watching non-cable TV. Does everyone have cable or satellite TV now? Is that ABC's assumption?

Honestly, I think that *is* the assumption. Especially when it comes to sports fans. We'll see how the ratings change from last season to this one.

You aren't supposed to care about MNF any more. The big "primetime" game of the week is going to be the Sunday night game on NBC (remember the Sunday night game used to be on cable!) As the schedule stands right now, the Jaguars aren't playing any Sunday night games, but NBC reserves the right to schedule the last 6 weeks of the season depending on which games matter.

The only time I ever see the Jags was on that Sunday night game since I'm a West Coaster! That's a drag! I guess now I'm just going to have to hope they play well enough for NBC to put them on. Are they scheduled for a Monday night?

I put $10 on them to win the SuperBowl with 20:1 odds! :-)

Yup, twice.

9/11: PIT @ JAX
11/20: NYG @ JAX

Well then. Now I definitely have to get cable. Otherwise, I will be Jag-less all season! I've tried searching online a couple seasons ago to see if there's a bar in the L.A. area that shows those games, but no dice. I'll try again to see if there's one now.

BTW, I have your bets! I'm *sure* you will be a winner!

That sucks, didn't realize they were doing this. I would scout out the bars for sure, and try and get a group of people who are all interested in joining you. Even if the bars weren't planning on showing a game, if you and enough people commit to it, maybe you can convince a local bar to show them. They'd be happy to sell you and your friends drinks and food as you chear on the Jags!

Of course it's probably cheaper to just buy cable TV for the season ;-).

Yeah, I'm sure that's what I'll end up doing. Just buying cable. I got an ad from Adelphia saying something about cable for $12/month. I wonder if that's all the basic channels. If it includes ESPN, them I'm set!

Why are you surprised with the change in MNF?

The NFL, under the jerk commish Price Tags, has whored themselves to the highest bidder!!!

The hell with the tradition of the NFL. The hell with the history of the NFL. The hell with everything the NFL ever stood for.

This started when the jerk commish, pushed for some small town in Florida to get an expansion team, when clearly the great city of Baltimore was the better choice. To hell with tradition. To hell with the fact that the BALIMORE COLTS put the NFL on the TV map. To hell with correcting a serious wrong, when the BALTIMORE COLTS were STOLEN.

The only thing the NFL wants from fans is their money. Buy tickets to the games. Buy the PSL's just for the right to buy a ticket. Buy NFL jerseys, caps, t shirts. Buy the products sold by NFL advertisers. But once you stop, the team you supported with your hard earned money AND your tax dollars, will pick up and move to another city with the best offer.
